Location Settings
Twitter has a feature to add your location to your tweets, This lets people know where you are and where you have visited.. We advise that you turn off your location, you don’t want just anybody on the internet knowing where you live.
To do this click on settings from the drop down menu > uncheck the box that says ‘Add a location to my tweets’ and then click ‘Save changes’ from the bottom of the screen.

Account Blocking & Muting
Next to the follow button is three small dots. Clicking these dots opens a drop down menu. From here you can mute an account, block & report (as well as other general options.) Blocking a user stops them from seeing what you tweet. You can view a list of users you have blocked or muted in your Account Settings. When a blocked user clicks your account they will be met with a message telling them they are blocked. |
Report an Account
From the drop down menu in the above picture, click Report @User. This brings up the report tool. Select the appropriate option. In the next page you will be able to select any tweets as evidence to their wrongdoings.

Suspicious Links
These urls attempt to steal your login information, sites can download malicious software onto your computer, and request personal data. Think before you click!
If you encounter spam or malware links, report them directly from the offending accounts profile or tweets.
- Bot Spam: Often attackers use bots to interact with potential targets. Like the above link, you may get many DM’S advertising that someone wants to talk to you, there is a picture of you circulating twitter, etc.

General Safety Tips
Uncheck ‘Receive Direct Messages from Anyone’
By doing this you ensure that not just anyone can send you private messages. Many spam bots send grabber links through DM’S asking you to visit their sites.

- Make a strong password AND do not give it to anyone. A strong password lessens your chances of being hacked. Update your password if it has been a while.
